Dalakit Project Tidbit

There are many reasons why I like this picture above. The best reason is probably what I feel in my body which is still reeling from the Bikol trip. LBM for regurgitating myself with halo-halo everyday. Muscle pain, joint pain, sore throat, back ache from that arctic, suspension-less bus back to Manila. Just my body's way of saying "Thank you Lord for honoring my time with service to a few of my townsfolk." Scrapes and bruises ain't a thing compared to the Nabuenyo kids' joy over a finished bowl of love and porridge.

One fine morning Septmber 19 morning following a night of torrential rain, TNIK members composed of myself (John Pesebre), Perrie Escuro, Hernan Esplago, Jhek Velitario, Elmer Bearis and some of the teachers of Nabua Central Pilot School (NCPS) distributed a humble amount of equipment for gifts to the Grade 5 class of NCPS.

There is no big or small donation for many of my townsfolk. With the humble gift we shared, 300 kids showed up to show goodwill and enthusiasm.

We were thinking a small classroom gathering. Snobbery was my greatest fear. The
opposite happened. The kids even gave a stage number for us in full regalia.

The presentation to the Grade 5 gift itself came as a surprise for us. All Grade 5 teachers came to receive the gift. The principal also came.

Principal Cynthia Infante sits third from your left. She was also given a moment to address the audience and she gave an impassioned appeal for people to help NCPS especially in painting of the school.

After the handover ceremony we then proceeded to go for the Almusal giving portion of the day. We distributed breakfast of arroz caldo and banana cue to the students and buckets of friend chicken to the teachers.

Nabua Volunteerism & Disaster Preparedness

The goal really is to rally an army of Nabuenyo volunteers for assistance.

1.) to serve the community thru the use of communications facility and mass media, portable radio's VHF, UHF, HF and the like:

 2.) to raise the status of media communicators to a position of high responsibility and importance, as well as enable to actively participate in public assistance and other related activities especially during calamities;

3.) to foster stronger and more cohesive fellowship and cooperation among various government  and civic-oriented organization
Ana uragon pa kadi, ading presidente nira sa Nabua Chapter amo si Martin Beloro

tunay ko di. An pang uragon kadi, ading si Martin policy maker adi sadto Nabua ta di ninyo naiuunga, amo ya ana Market Administrator sadto Nabua.

So kaya uman ku matuparan ko ya after the gift giving sadto Dalakit,

I seized the opportunity to chat and catch up. Good friends have a way of meeting minds. He found out my advocacy on disaster preparedness and I found out about his involvement. Check.

Sabi ni Martin, ana challenging palan sa emergency response sadto Nabua is the lack of quick communication nira. Agko sira manpower ta 50-strong sira -- kaiba pa si Mayor Simbulan. However, the communication system remains the challenge. They just rely on cellphones which on typhoon season become virtually useless because of downed cell sites and short battery life. What Martin proposed is a Radio Base

and handelds

He also made mention the importance of relaying information online via Twitter and Facebook so I proposed  that Kabalikat also have its own laptop
All these equipment will be placed inside the Market Administrator's Office as the hub of the Kabalikat group. Kasentrowan kaya adto Camarin and they can easily go to a higher ground (2nd floor) if the town gets flooded. Sabi ngani ku usad na Taga-Nabua na tumatabang kanato: "Kadakol kana matatabangan kading project na adi!"

So pagtarabangan ta po adi mga kahimanwa. Ana approximate costing kadi program na adi would be:

  • 01 Radio Base (Php. 9, 500. 00)
  • 5 Handhelds @ 3, 700. 00 each (Php. 18, 500. 00)
  • 01 Laptop (Php. 17, 000. 00)
APPROX TOTAL COST OF PROJECT: Php. 45, 000. 00
Target Date of Distribution: October 11, 2012

Laptops & Printer for Local Elementary Journalists

The road to success from Nabua is not your typical paved-with-streets-of-gold experience. Agko ngani nagsasabi malado kuno. Grabe pakikipaglaban. Grabe ana palaspagas.

Paryo man namo kadto dakol talagang talento. Makasikwat basang sa onra. Makaiiyan man sa national paryo nira:

Ana achievement na dadarawon kadi mga igin na adi serve as encouragement sa mga kapwa nira estudyante to pursue their dreams. What this hopes to communicate to the studentry is: Train well you will Gain well.

Paryo nira kadto kamanga muya man namo. Ka excited. Migpara inistoryan sana kami kan bago maturog as we prepared for the next day's competition. On the next day, kami kami sana amo nagtitinabangan. Nagpapakinusugan sa boot. Maski maluya sana kita, basta magkaiiba kita.

Pagpauli namo we were received as ambassadors of education. True enough my classmates of more than 20 years ago are now reaping the benefits of education with good professions. Education has a way of boosting ana buway kana tawo. Kita ngowan, tibaad maitao ta man an kanda.

Although the same school experiences remain unchanged, su resources (or lack) amo man. Like this group of youngsters vying again for a position in the rankings. Tabangan ta man po sira. They need the equipment to compete sa next division, regional and national competitions. Maski mga laptops uda na. They need these tools ta sadto sana man sira sasabiyan competition proper sa topics nira na isusurat tsaka sira migkapagkapag. Di uman nira yan pwedeng isabmit na handwritten.

Let's help continue transforming the education culture in Nabua na buko sanang tabang within the school community but also the wider community -- the global community. Nabua is no longer a local community but a global one -- GLOCAL NABUA.

Tabangan ta sira mga kanguran, mga TNIKers kaipuwan pa nira bago mag October 12, 2012
